Rome Borghese Gallery and GardensTo extend your cultural experience while on your Rome holiday a visit to the impressive Borghese Gallery is essential. The art gallery inside the Villa Borghese is located in Rome near Piazza del Popolo. Next to the gardens of the Villa Borghese, this site is impressive in itself, the gardens are one of the most popular spots to relax, jog or take a romantic stroll in the shade of the trees.

Inside the villa is one of the most important art collections of Rome originally the private collection of  Cardinal Scipione Borghese, nephew of Pope Paul V. He spent his lifetime amassing this amazing collection of priceless paintings, sculptures and antiques. Borghese managed to acquire a lot of Bernini’s early works and added some art from the Vatican Museums as well. Masterpieces include Bernini’s life-sized Baroque statue “Apollo and Daphne”, Caravaggio’s paintings “Boy with a Basket of Fruit”  and “Jerome”, Titian’s “Sacred and Profane Love” and Raphael’s “Deposition”.

Only twenty rooms are inside the villa, so reservations must be made, as a maximum of 360 people are allowed in every two hours.

Disabled Access can be tortuous, someone will have to go to the main entrance, if they will open the Art School doors, access is ramped. If they won’t which is often the case, then you need to enter at the back of the building, over gravel, using the smallest lift possible, transferring in and out of your wheelchair onto a chair in the lift.
